Luxembourg’s Vision of Research Ethics & Research Integrity

Luxembourg’s Vision of Research Ethics & Research Integrity

By Katrina A. Bramstedt, PhD

The Luxembourg Agency for Research Integrity (LARI) was launched in 2016.  Entering as its new Secretary General in September 2018, I bring 18 years of international research ethics and research integrity experience to the office. Uniquely, my experience set emerges from academia, industry, and clinical settings.  I have chaired a research ethics committee and consulted for several; created and taught numerous research ethics & RCR courses; and worked as a researcher and research supervisor, as well as a bioethics consultant.

What makes LARI novel are the three methods that we use to promote research ethics and research integrity; namely, 1) coaching; 2) bioethics consultation; 3) creative teaching workshops. Coaching provides front-loaded, longitudinal, personalized guidance of the research process.  Bioethics consultation provides analysis and advice regarding ethical dilemmas from a Fellowship-trained bioethicist.  The CAPRI program (Creative Approaches Promoting Research Integrity) blends the teaching of research ethics/integrity content with visual arts activities to enhance the observation skills of researchers and to make the learning process hands-on and enjoyable. Many of LARI’s workshops will be open for external registration and we look forward to attendees from abroad. Also, our tools, such as the Coach Handbook, are intended for sharing.

Our website (www.LARI.lu) and our Compass newsletter provide more information.  LARI is excited to be a member of ENRIO!
