Third version of the Curriculum “Good Scientific Practice“
Third version of the Curriculum “Good Scientific Practice“
by Gerlinde Sponholz, Team Scientific Integrity, Germany
Many people spend their spring and summer time holidaying, or relax in their leisure time below a cherry tree and thinking about …. whatever. During the next months, we (Team Scientific Integrity) are going to revise the curriculum for teaching “Good Scientific Practice” which published in German in 2012 and in English in 2016.
In the past years new technologies and new ways in performing and communicating research and sharing materials and results have evolved. All of them are influencing the process of research, are challenging the scientific community. They require a discussion about their advantages and disadvantages and their effect upon our values and norms in science and about teaching and learning them.
In the past years many groups have been involved in developing teaching programs for research integrity or good scientific practice and they published their experience and their teaching materials.
This and our teaching and training experience in Germany contributed to our decision for checking and revising the curriculum.
On behalf of and in cooperation with the German Research Ombudsman (Ombudsman fuer die Wissenschaft), some experts from the German Research Foundation (Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft, DFG) and teachers from other universities, Team Scientific Integrity will soon start the revision of the 2012 curriculum. We want to adapt the text to new developments and add these issues into our recommendations concerning teaching good scientific practice. We want to support the process of implementation of teaching programs in German universities and research institutions.
Our main focus will be, as it was for the 2009 and 2012 curricula, universities and research institutions in Germany. Therefore the new curriculum will be published in German. At the moment we cannot promise whether and when an English version will be published.
The English version of the current curriculum is published on the ENRIO website: https://www.enrio.eu/resources/?cat=15.
